At just 24 years old, Louis-Ulysse Chopard established a watchmaking workshop in Sonvilier, Switzerland, specializing in pocket watches and high-precision chronometers. The young watchmaker quickly realized that his customers were seeking ultra-thin, extremely precise timepieces suitable for everyday use.

The company solidified its reputation as a manufacturer of reliable, high-quality Swiss watches. Chopard became the official supplier to the prestigious 'Tir Fédéral,' the Swiss Federal Railways, and Tsar Nicholas II of Russia himself, among other distinguished clients.

Chopard establishes its headquarters in Geneva, the world-renowned center of the watchmaking industry. Paul-André Chopard, grandson of founder Louis-Ulysse, takes the helm and carries on the family tradition at this new and prestigious location.

Karl Scheufele III, a German goldsmith and watchmaker, traveled to Geneva with the intention of acquiring a Swiss watch manufacturer. His meeting with Paul-André Chopard led to the immediate sale of the company. Together with his wife Karin, the Scheufeles spearheaded a dramatic expansion of production and elevated the brand’s reputation to new heights.

Chopard is celebrating its 150th anniversary with the launch of the spectacular “Animal World” High Jewelry collection, comprising 150 stunning pieces.
